Kickstarting Arcana

I am running a Kickstarter for the third volume of Driving Arcana, and so far it’s going very well. The project funded in under three days, but the campaign runs until April 27 and I have some really exciting stretch goals to reach for, so I’m hopeful people will keep backing and spreading the word.

You can check out the campaign here!

A big difference between this campaign and the Professor Odd one I did in September is that Wheel 3 is much earlier in its production stage. So while I’m running the campaign I’m also working on the cover art, book design, and interior art. WIPs of this process have been and will be going up on Patreon and I’ve been sharing a few on Twitter and Instagram as well. It’s all very exciting.

I’ve also recorded a few of the convergent short stories, which you can listen to over at Heliopause:

Abandon All ____ (from Wheel 1), The Five Bodies of Tamerlain Pierce (Wheel 2), and The Lady in the Gray Suit (Wheel 3) (Yes, Wheel 3! A new one!)

Also, before I lose it, here is the twitter thread in which I talk about writing Driving Arcana and some of the main characters.

Writing new material also continues. This has mostly been Professor Odd Season Four and Driving Arcana Wheel 4 (coincidence? Yes, actually!) interspersed with stories for an unrelated project called The Urviianiy (Patrons will know what this is).

Art commissions are on hiatus while I get the illustrations done for Wheel 3. One of these is finished, one of these is in progress, and one is going to be a map of Hell, which I am not sure if I can fit on a single sheet of paper but by dogs I’m gonna try.

On a personal note: I passed a major milestone on March 15th when I was able to receive my COVID-19 vaccination. It’s a long story, and one day I should be able to share it, but given the current upheaval I’ll wait. Suffice to say that I didn’t believe it would happen until it happened and I still can’t really believe it happened. But I’m going back to lifeguarding (I got the Johnson & Johnson, which is just one poke + 14 days to full inoculation) next week, and this past week I got to go on a bike ride with a friend, also vaccinated, and we got to hug like normal people. It was marvelous.

Change is in the air here in Bend. We had windstorm a week ago that took out some of our biggest trees in Drake Park. I’m grateful that my own spruce and ponderosa survived. Crocuses are out in force and daffodils are raising their eggy heads. Spring is coming, along with more and more doses of the vaccine. I am aware of the world moving, but I don’t think we’re going back to normal.

We’re moving into another stage of our strange and awesome existence.

Next post will be more art and less words.
